Today was so awesome!
So here I am, in My Can Chai, which is supposed to have some of the most beautiful terrace fields in Asia, and yet it’s not known by most travellers. They say that almost all tourists that wanna see the rice fields in Vietnam go to Sapa (I went there in 2012, very beautiful place, but also too touristy).
I heard of My Can Chai three years ago and knew that I would come here some day. There is literally no one, I think I’m the only white guy walking up and down around these muddy and slippery hills. That’s why people look at me, and say hello with a very big smile (“hello” is for real the only thing they know in English), I haven’t found anyone (yet) who knows some basic vocabulary like “water”, “coffee”, “toilet”, “hot”, “cold” or other super elementary questions like “how are you?”, “What’s your name? or “how old are you?”. But anyways, for me language is not a barrier!! I took some landscapes and portrait photos today but it was raining 90% of the time do instead I was finding shelter every 10 minutes of walk, since a longer time would make me soaking wet.
I got invited a few times for tea by the locals, I also danced to “Despacito” and other ten songs with a super cute kiddo for an hour, and to end the day I was invited by a random family again who made me drunk giving me loads of rice wine (if you combine the fact that during the whole day I only ate a boiled egg, just because I wasn’t hungry, and this rice liquor might be around 40 degrees, you can imagine how I ended up!!) They wouldn’t stop pouring more and more alcohol and I drank it all obviously. I was in party mood already so again we danced to other songs with adults and kids in that little house with chickens walking around and a fire in the middle, next to the bed!!! #vietnamisdifferent
Anyways, it stopped raining so I told them I had to leave and get back to my homestay, it was all so muddy, steep and slippery walking down hill. I fell quite a few times, it started raining again and I was soaking wet, and I was drunk too! Anyways, after an hour of walk I finally returned to my room and had a warm shower. What a fantastic day!
Hope the weather gets better so I can take photos!
